If you were among the many who suspected Biden wasn’t really running things, the news over the weekend will come as no surprise.
It turns out that a number of Biden’s executive orders—including some of his most controversial eleventh-hour pardons—weren’t actually signed by him.
They were signed by an autopen, which is just a little contraption that replicates a person’s signature. It’s been used by presidents in the past for things like signing thank you letters or routine correspondence.
To my understanding, it’s never been a substitute for a president actually making decisions, but it’s starting to look like that might have actually been what was happening—at least if you believe what President Trump is saying about it.
According to him, Biden’s handlers didn’t just use the autopen to rubber-stamp Christmas cards. They used it to sign major executive orders that altered the course of the country.
They used it to issue pardons that would let criminals walk free.
They used it to exercise presidential power—without the President actually being involved.
Of course, President Trump has been quick to react.
My gosh, this guy has no chill.
Yesterday, he announced that he considers Biden’s autopen-signed pardons to be null and void.
We’ll have to wait to see how this all ends up being litigated, but it could mean that some of the people “Biden” pardoned could face prosecution—including, hopefully, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
