In this lesson, students are introduced to what problem-solving is, how they can start thinking about the skills that problem-solving requires of them, and what benefits are obtained by mastering problem-solving.

First, students will learn that problem-solving is synonymous with critical thinking. Creativity, decision-making, using diverse perspectives, evaluating information against logic and facts, as well as thriving in ambiguity are all essential to both critical thinking and problem-solving.

Students will learn the benefits of problem-solving in life. It can improve their situational adaptability, their flexibility, their decision-making capabilities, and their confidence as well as boost cooperation skills and teamwork.

Problem-solving is used and applied in a variety of ways. We will discuss many examples of problem-solving in business and in sports. We will also explore different types of problem-solving. The purpose of this is not to exhaust all the strategies and approaches, but merely to showcase that a diversity of approaches and strategies is the best way to become expert problem solvers.
