I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry, but here we are.
John Kerry just said that the First Amendment—yes, *that* First Amendment—is a “major block” to fighting disinformation.
Asked what could be done to curb the spread of disinformation about climate change, Kerry said:
“You know there’s a lot of discussion now about how you curb those entities in order to guarantee that you’re going to have some accountability on facts, etc. But look, if people only go to one source, and the source they go to is sick, and, you know, has an agenda, and they’re putting out disinformation, our First Amendment stands as a major block to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence.“
He continued by saying, “So what we need is to win the ground, win the right to govern, by hopefully winning enough votes that you’re free to be able to implement change.”
Yikes.
So what he’s saying is that as soon as who he sees as the “right people” get in office, then they’ll be able to govern these problems (see: free speech) out of existence.
He actually laments at one point in the discussion that things would be so much better if only we had some kind of “truth arbiter” who could fix all these issues!
Double yikes.
This got me thinking… How is it that so many elected officials remain so out of touch (either by ignorance or by choice) with the very most basic American principles?
Kerry’s way of thinking certainly isn’t unique amongst those who have been elected to represent the American people.
I’m confident you can think of several examples of terrible ideas put forth by members of Congress just off the top of your head. From Guam flipping over, to Pelosi’s famous “We have to pass the bill to see what’s in it,” there’s no shortage of ignorance or idiocy at the highest levels of government.
I’m not saying we expect every politician to be a constitutional scholar (a guy can dream)—but if they’re making decisions about the future of this country, understanding things like free markets, personal responsibility, and the role of government should be a *bare minimum* requirement.
That’s why I’m so excited to announce our new Adopt a Congressman program!
Now, when you purchase the Tuttle Twins children’s book series for your family, we’ll send some Tuttle Twins books to the congressman of your choosing.
The lessons taught in our books aren’t just for kids—there are more than a few adults (especially in government) who could use a little schooling on the basics of liberty.
Our books have helped over 500,000 families understand concepts like free markets, individual rights, and sound money. Now, it’s time to help our elected officials catch up.
For just $78.88, you get the full 14-book series for your family, and we’ll also send some Tuttle Twins books to your least favorite congressman.
Imagine if more politicians understood what kids learn in these books—that inflation isn’t caused by greedy corporations, and that it isn’t something you “just print more money” to solve.
Or that government manipulation of markets hasn’t ever lead to prosperity—it always leads to a worsening of quality of life for the people it is supposedly trying to help.
Hello, Venezuela?!
We’re not going to change Washington overnight, but we can at least try to educate those who make the decisions that impact all of us.
Some of them know the truth, and simply choose to do bad things. But there are some who are in the same boat as a lot of adults today—they were educated in a system that doesn’t teach the truth about economics, history, money, and business, so they simply haven’t ever encountered these ideas.
We want to change that.
Join us in this movement to raise a generation of freedom-loving kids all while giving our politicians a much-needed lesson in liberty.
Click here to adopt your congressman today and get your books!
Together, we can make a difference at home, and (hopefully!) on Capitol Hill too.
