The system is rigged to make (and keep) us poor

News out of the DNC has given us one disastrous take after another, so it’s hard to pick which awful policy proposal to talk about first.

Although there are literally a dozen freedom-limiting, big-government enhancing, worst-idea-ever, soundbites to choose from, I want to talk about something that might get lost in the flashier headlines.

The proposed hike in the capital gains tax might sound like just another policy debate, but the reality of it possibly becoming law is pretty scary.

They say they just want to “get the rich to pay their fair share” (whatever that means)—but what they really want is to keep people like you and I trapped in a system designed to erode our financial independence.

Inflation has been eating away at our purchasing power for years as the government, through the Federal Reserve, has been printing money at unprecedented levels, causing prices to rise.

When our dollar buys less, we’re forced to seek refuge in investments like stocks, real estate, or other assets.

It’s a survival strategy many of us have turned to in order to protect our savings.

But then it gets worse.

Because the very same people who caused this inflation to begin with tax the gains you make from those investments.

Even more concerning is the talk of taxing unrealized gains—meaning you could be taxed on the increased value of your home or stocks, even if you haven’t sold them!

They literally want to tax you on money you don’t even have.

If you’ve read The Tuttle Twins and the Creature from Jekyll Island with your kids, you know this is all part of a larger game.

It explains how the Federal Reserve’s control over the money supply leads to inflation, which stealthily erodes the value of our savings. It even talks about how when the government steps in with bailouts, they’re not rescuing us—they’re protecting the big banks and corporations from their own bad practices and leaving everyday people to shoulder the burden.

The proposed capital gains tax hike is just another extension of this scheme.

They inflate the currency, making it harder for you to save. Then, when you try to protect yourself by investing, they hit you with higher taxes.

It’s a perfect example of the government’s, “Heads we win, tails you lose” stranglehold on our money and by extension—our lives.

But it’s not just about taxes and inflation.

The system is designed to keep us dependent.

When our savings are eroded by inflation and then further diminished by taxes, we’re left with fewer resources which leads many to more reliance on government programs.

This is exactly how the cycle of dependency continues—and why it’s so important that we educate ourselves and our children about these issues.

The Tuttle Twins and the Creature from Jekyll Island is a great resource because it offers a clear explanation of how these economic forces work, but more importantly, it explains why they matter to you and your family.

Our books and curricula are a toolkit for helping kids (and adults!) understand and navigate the financial traps that the government sets. We even have an entire economics curriculum that teaches kids ages 8-18 the intricacies of money and finance from a perspective that values the free market and human prosperity!

By educating our kids on these important issues, we can help them break free from a rigged system and hopefully build a future where they’re not at the mercy of inflation, government overreach, and the whims of the petty tyrants who seek to rule over them.

The more we understand these issues, the better equipped we are to fight back.

I’m confident that if we work together, we can produce a generation of kids that has a chance at living in a world where they are financially independent—free from the clutches of a rigged system.
